Fiorentina, Venezia come to the Franchi

Fiorentina play their first home game and host newly-promoted Venezia: three big points up for grabs

Fiorentina and Venezia face each other at the Franchi on matchday 2 of the Serie A Enilive. Raffaele Palladino’s Viola comes off the back of a draw against Parma and will be looking for their first win of the season.

The Lagunari have always lost their first away game in Serie A and have only ever once won in their first two games. They will want to put the defeat to Lazio behind them and play for a chance to survive.

DID YOU KNOW?

Fiorentina drew their first match of this championship, while not since 2019 with Vincenzo Montella on the bench have they gone winless in their first two Serie A games (two defeats in that case).

Venezia lost their first match of this championship, while in their last two Serie A seasons they have lost both of their first two games: in 2001 with Cesare Prandelli on the bench and in 2021 with Paolo Zanetti (in the two previous cases without scoring a single goal).

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Fiorentina are the opponent against which Venezia have obtained the most wins in their history in Serie A: 10 in 26 matches (D2, L14), and the one against which they have scored the most goals (36).

No draws have been played out across the last 16 matches between Fiorentina and Venezia in Serie A (11 Viola wins and five successes for the Venetians) – the last draw between the two teams in the top division dates to 30 March 1947 (1-1 at the Franchi).

Fiorentina have won each of their last five home games against Venezia in Serie A, conceding just two goals (three clean sheets); the same number of wins as in their previous eight (D1 L2).

PLAYERS

Since his first goal from a direct free kick in 2018/19, Cristiano Biraghi has scored eight goals in this manner; more than any other player in Serie A (overtaking Sergej Milinkovic-Savic on seven on the last matchday) – in the same period, he is the defender who has scored the most goals from direct free kicks in the Big-5 European leagues.

Moise Kean hasn`t scored in any of his last 24 Serie A games (last goal on 1 April 2023 against Verona), while no central striker currently in the top-flight is experiencing a longer drought than the Viola player (24 games without a goal also for Giovanni Simeone).

Alfred Duncan, who scored once against Fiorentina in Serie A (on 9 December 2018 while playing for Sassuolo), played 105 games and scored six goals for Fiorentina in the Italian top-flight (including 30 appearances and two goals last season).
