&lt;p&gt;Roma has decided to replace Rui Patricio with a name much travelled. The second Australian goalkeeper ever in Serie A, after Zeljko Kalac, who played for Perugia and Milan. Born in 1992, Mathew Ryan arrives in Italy ready for a new challenge, aiming to add a fresh chapter to a dynamic career that has taken him to five different countries with nine clubs.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Ryan began his career in Australian football with the &lt;strong&gt;Central Coast Mariners&lt;/strong&gt;, where he stayed for three seasons and won a national championship. His European adventure started in Belgium with &lt;strong&gt;Club Brugge&lt;/strong&gt;, where he made a name for himself over two seasons, helping the team compete at the top level.&amp;nbsp; Though they did not secure the title, he did win a &lt;strong&gt;Belgian Cup&lt;/strong&gt; and made a number of appearances in the Europa League, leading the club to the quarterfinals of the tournament. His experience in Flanders served as a springboard for his career and was recognised as &#34;Goalkeeper of the Year&#34; in his first season in the Pro League.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Australian number one since the 2014 World Cup, Ryan won the &lt;strong&gt;Asia Cup in 2015&lt;/strong&gt;, where he was named MVP. He then returned to Belgium, this time joining &lt;strong&gt;Genk&lt;/strong&gt;, where he played 24 matches.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The following year, Ryan transferred to &lt;strong&gt;Brighton&lt;/strong&gt;, becoming a key player for three consecutive seasons in the Premier League. In his fourth year, coach Graham Potter started to favour Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, leading Ryan to seek a change in January after making &lt;strong&gt;123 &lt;/strong&gt;appearances for the Seagulls.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;He enters a new phase of his career as a backup goalkeeper, playing for &lt;strong&gt;Arsenal, Real Sociedad,&lt;/strong&gt; and &lt;strong&gt;Copenhagen&lt;/strong&gt;. With the Danish club, he also made 4 appearances in the Champions League. The final stop on his globetrotting journey is &lt;strong&gt;AZ Alkmaar &lt;/strong&gt;in the Netherlands, where he spent a season and a half, clocking up 64 appearances.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Now, Mathew Ryan joins Roma, a new and exciting destination in his career.
