MIRANDA AND BERNABÉ GOLD MEDALISTS AT PARIS 2024
Spain beat France in a thrilling final at the Olympics to win the gold medal. Juan Miranda (Bologna) and Adrián Bernabé (Parma) are celebrating the win whilst Morocco and El Azzouzi (Bologna) secured a historic bronze
Spain is back on the Olympic football throne 22 years after the gold medal win in Barcelona in 1992 having beaten France in a spectacular final. Two Serie A Enilive players shone during the game at the Parc des Princes: Juan Miranda and Adrián Bernabé. The Bologna defender, captaining the side, put in a massive performance whilst the Parma midfielder proved decisive with his assist for the winning goal.
France went ahead through Enzo Millot, but Spain reacted quickly. Fermin Lopez levelled things up and then it was Miranda who started the move that took them ahead: he ran down the wing and put in a splendid cross for Abel Ruiz whose shot was saved by Restes, but Fermin was there to slot it home on the rebound. Not long after, Miranda won a free kick on the edge of the box and Alex Baena stepped up to make it 3-1.
In the second half, spurred on by fans at the Parc des Princes, France didn’t give in and managed to go level through Olise and a Mateta penalty. In the most difficult moment for the Roja, Bernabé stepped up. With only seconds to go until the final whistle, he passed to Turrientes who hit the bar. In extra time, however, he made a splendid pass to Camello who beat the keeper with a great touch. Time was running out and Camello came once again, this time on a counterattack, to beat Restes and seal the Spanish win.
On Thursday, Morocco beat Egypt 6-0 and won the bronze medal.
